The Cure Is More Cowbell... Or Really Bad Guitar

Greetings, everyone!  Happy Post-Independence Day!!!  Because I did not get to partake in any libations due to prolonged family time, I do hope that all of you were able to party it up some so I can live vicariously through you.  I had two beers the other night and was giggling like a little school girl, which tells me that it has been FAR too long since the party hats have been broken out at my house!

Thankfully, that shall be remedied temporarily tomorrow, because GUESS WHAT I AM DOING?!!??!!?!

The Basilica Block Party!
Yes, I bit the big one and spent $40 on a ticket to the BASILICA BLOCK PARTY, Y'ALL!!  If you will recall from this post, I was lamenting over the price of the ticket and begging all of you to send me there with donations (thanks for nothing!) (just kidding.), and recording stupid videos to enter into a contest that never actually got entered.  Anyway, it's happening, folks!  It's supposed to be 88 degrees and oppressively humid, but DAMNIT I AM GOING AND HAVING A GOOD TIME!

And I have it on good authority that they have wine boxes... As in, wine in little juice boxes.  If that isn't the best idea ever, I really don't know what is.

Anyway, this past weekend my dear brother, Ryan, joined us for Independence Day festivities.  By "Independence Day festivities", of course I mean eating copious amounts of food, getting cheap spray tans (not me, though, for I prefer that whole "white and pasty" look..), and watching really bad horror movies.  Ryan made me sit through a M. Night Shyamalan (or whatever the hell) snoozefest flick called "Devil", which evidently actually was in the theaters, though I had never heard of it... And for good reason!  BOOOOORING.  The whole thing took place in an elevator, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

We also filmed an impromptu concert, as we both are blessed with impeccable idiocy musical ability, as you will soon see!  I am posting "Ryanca's" rendition of Oasis' "Wonderwall" for your viewing pleasuuuuuuure (which you are supposed to say in a really creepy way for maximum effectiveness.), and I suggest that you save it to your hard drive as I am quite certain that this is the beginning of a long and fruitful music career for the both of us.  Before you watch, though, there are a few things you need to know:

1) I had just woken up like ten minutes prior to the filming of this video, which explains why I look like I stuck my head in a pail full of melted butter.  My most sincere of apologies for the bed head, the torn jeans, and just my general ugliness.

2) Yes, the video is out of focus.  Ry's fancy camera ain't all it's cracked up to be, I guess.

3) I know you can't hear it that well, which really works in your favor because not only do you not have the horror of seeing/hearing me "play" guitar, but you also can't really hear the sound of my horrible "voice" "singing" off key.

4) Please note the interaction between Ryan and my cat.  It's hard not to notice, but I blame that for my fuckup in the middle.

5) Don't worry, I didn't finish the song, so your suffering is limited.  This video, believe it or not, was what we had to settle for after several failed attempts to record the whole thing.

6) YES, that zebra thing to my left IS a Snuggie!!!!  In retrospect, I should have totally worn that while playing.

7) Aren't you all just DYING to see this video now?  I have done such a great job of setting it up!

I'll shut up now.  Here it is:

I am not sure why I think that others would want to be privy to our stupidity, but fortunately for you, I do!

Also, I just thought I would share this little gem of an interaction I saw on Facebook the other day that made me laugh:

What frickin ever, indeed!

Um, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose when you can't even spell the little girl's name correctly?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I really liked your rendition! And Ryan playing with your kitty is hilarious. Devil looked like a really bad movie, as every M. Night Shaymalayan movie has been since the Sixth Sense (which I still enjoy, oh Bruce Willis!).

I've been to the Basilica party many many times over the years - if the weather is nice it's always a blast.

Always good to find another MN blogger!!

That Ryan just plays with the kitty and gets all the fame that your band will def get in the near future. NOT FAIR.

Also, I'm starting a band too! I've been starting it for years now. still can't plan an instrument though, so we'll see.

I watched the video on my lunch break, and sniggered to myself all the way through it. And then spent the rest of the afternoon with Wonderwall stuck in my head...

Hope tomorrow is a total blast!

PS. I've not seen Devil, but was kind of impressed that someone could come up with something requiring such a cheap-ass set budget!
